Thanks to John for coming in and talking to Year 6 about what it was like being a 10 year old in London during the blitz. He had some amazing stories about doodlebugs, collecting shrapnel, sleeping in the anderson shelter and being evacuated. While World War 2 was a tragic time for so many, for a ten year old boy this was his playground!
The rain fell and the wind blew on our houses!! Miss Best inspired children and teachers in some hands-on engineering in assembly this week. Groups were challenged to design and build the perfect house for some little pigs using specific building materials. In addition, she explored what it means to be an engineer and the amazing improvements engineers make to our everyday lives. Which of our mini engineers built the house that stayed standing???
Our School Council reps are having a great day at the Houses of Parliament. They have been thinking about the significance of parliament and what happens there – and have been particularly complimented on their impressive questioning skills. One of the questions they were asked was whether it would be good if children ruled the world! Hmmm… what do you think about that one?? Thanks also to Teddy’s Grandad for the biscuits.
We had a great morning yesterday at the grand opening of our Lego Innovation Studio. We were joined by the wonderful Mayor Olu and Clive Efford as well as many governors and friends of the school who came along to hear all about the potential of this amazing resource. Everyone had the chance to design a Lego model, build and programme a robot and even to fly a drone. The faces of the children perfectly capture the excitement, engagement, awe and wonder that the Studio brings.
What a great day we’re having finding out all about actress Sarah Hadland. Sarah has been in lots shows from the West End to television and she was even in a James Bond film! The children know her from Miranda and Horrible Histories and she is also the voice of Dizzy in Bob the Builder and Penny in Fireman Sam. We got to see props and costumes from her performances and hear lots of stories about life as an actor. We are definitely inspired!
