At Middle Park children learn all about the ever-changing world around them in readiness and preparation for a career beyond school. Science is now taught in conjunction with, and alongside Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, ensuring we provide links to STEM and give our children a holistic STEM experience.
Science lessons all begin with a Learning Question – breeding curiosity, and prompting the children to make predictions, make enquiries through investigations and to ask and explore further questions. Science is taught using a variety of different scientific enquiry such as observing over time, identifying and classifying, pattern seeking, researching, fair testing, reporting and presenting. It also enables the children to work scientifically and demonstrate their knowledge in practical ways, using extended and specialist scientific vocabulary to explain their predictions and ideas, as well as to analyse and justify their conclusions.
The Science Curriculum addresses a range of key skills through the varying topics in a host of different contexts that children learn in relation to biology, chemistry and physics. Teachers try to ensure that the children secure scientific knowledge at each stage, building up a body of knowledge, methods, processes, concepts and uses for science as they progress through school. Science teaches the children beneficial life skills that can be used in careers in the wider world such as leadership, creativity, problem-solving, collaboration and logical thinking.
