Pupil Premium Summary
The government continues to provide funding targeted at addressing underlying inequalities and aiming to tackle the disadvantages that some children experience in life. As a school we use the money carefully to ensure that our vulnerable children achieved the best support possible. One of the measures for assessing the impact of this funding is to look at those children who claim free school meals (FSM).
What is Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium is funding allocated to schools for the specific purpose of boosting the attainment of pupils from low-income families, for supporting children with parents in the regular armed forces, as well as those currently, or who have ever been, in Local Authority care.
Funding is allocated to children who are currently on Free School Meals (FSM) or have been on FSM at any time over the last six years (the Ever6 measure), to those with families in the regular armed forces, to children currently in Local Authority Care or children who have been in care in the past.
Why has it been introduced?
The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and their peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most. Schools decide how best to spend the funding and the Government requires a report each year of how the Pupil Premium funding has been spent and the impact this spending has on pupils.
