Dyslexic learners
Great to welcome Helene from the STEPs team this morning to speak with parents about what life is like for our dyslexic learners. Thanks to the parents who came along.
Year 4 have had such a great day. The children enjoyed taking the train up to London Bridge and walking along the river front. We stopped for a look at the Golden Hinde and had a quick talk from one of the guides. Next, we made our way along to the Globe Theatre. We discovered that the Globe was built JUST 20 years ago! Inside, it still looks exactly like it did in the time of Shakespeare with the open roof and wooden pews, although if you were rich you could sit higher up with cushions and seats. Inside one of the rehearsal rooms we learned more about Macbeth. We got into character and tried to imagine what it would have felt like coming across the three witches.
Happy International Women’s Day to all the strong Middle Park women out there – mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, friends. We are truly blessed to have all these powerful women leading in our school and especially today we acknowledge them and we appreciate them. May we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.
Year 4 enjoyed a lovely walk to the Tarn on Monday afternoon as part of their science topic about habitats and animals. We looked at the different environments set up for various animals and insects. We spotted lots of ducks and other water birds including coots and moorhens. We were fortunate enough to see a duckling with its mummy and as long as we were quiet it let us get really close. It was a bit chilly for butterflies but maybe next time.
Is there anything these amazing Middle Park children can’t do?? Despite yesterday’s rain, wind and wet mud our children from Years 4 and 6 won a Tag Rugby tournament against other Greenwich Schools and brought home yet another trophy for our cabinet. As always, they demonstrated determination, passion and enthusiasm. We are all super proud of them.
We welcomed our lovely friend Steve into school this afternoon with a group of young athletes currently training to become professional footballers at the Charlton Athletic Academy. They came to talk to Year 4 about the importance of hard work, being confident, driven and focused. This was their advice to us:
1. Be consistent in all areas (school, home, hobbies)
2. Be dedicated (if you love it, stick with it even when it gets tough)
3. Work hard. (there will always be someone better than you so keep working to be your best)
4. It’s never too late to find your passion
